Korean War Veterans Memorial

The Korean War Veterans Memorial is composed of several elements. The most noticable element is the collection of statues depicting soldiers on patrol, frozen in time. They stand in silence before a granite wall, into which over 2000 photos from the war have been sandblasted as an eternal reminder of the those that served, and the 54,246 that gave their lives. The photos, being sandblasted, seem to appear as ghosts of remembrance, bringing to mind the words of General Douglas MacArthur, "Old soldiers never die, they just fade away." Inscribed on the other side of the wall are the names of the countries that provided troops, supplies, and support of the war effort.
